If you asked about the best domain registrar on Reddit, Porkbun would be the most upvoted suggestion, but it never impressed me personally. I just don’t get the hype.

They have low prices, sure, and they try to be transparent and all, but there are other providers out there that I like more (objectively and subjectively).

Among the different alternatives I’ve tried, Spaceship is currently my favorite. They have lower prices and a better dashboard UI. I had a bumpy start with them due to a few website bugs, but those have been fixed a while ago and it’s been a smooth experience since.

I mostly use Spaceship for domain registration, but I’m also using their shared hosting for low-traffic websites, and it’s been good as well.

I used other providers like Namecheap, Dynadot and NameSilo, but none has anything better (or cheaper) than Spaceship.

On Reddit, a lot of users would recommend Cloudflare as an alternative registrar, but I wouldn’t move my domains there. There is no support service unless you have a paid subscription.

There are plenty of horror stories about Cloudflare’s non-responsive support on Reddit. And they don’t allow you to change your domain’s nameservers. You can use their DNS if you want, but keep your domains at another registrar where support is available when you need it.

Here’s my TL;DR about each of these alternatives:

Dynadot	Prices are low and the dashboard is clean and pretty. Free WHOIS privacy is included. They don’t have web hosting or many other services besides domain registration.
NameSilo	It’s good overall, but they’ve hiked up the price for .com. The control panel is a little dated and not my favorite.
Cloudflare	Lowest domain renewal rates, but no first-year discounts like other registrars. You can’t change nameservers, and support isn’t available for the free plan. I avoid registering domains with them.
